Dr. Ma Jun, Chairman of the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), recently spoke as a guest speaker at the University of Chicago, Hong Kong campus, sharing his expertise on various Green Finance Initiatives with around 20 students.
He provided an overview of China's green finance framework, highlighting the role of the central bank's Green Finance Task Force in initiating the country’s green finance agenda in 2014. He explained the four pillars of the green finance framework – taxonomy, disclosure, products and incentives -- and how the coordination of these pillars has supported China to become the world’s largest green lending and green bond market. Dr Ma also discussed future developments such as transition finance for carbon-intensive industries.
After his talk, Dr. Ma engaged in a Q&A session led by Mark Barnekow. Students asked about implementing green finance policies in Hong Kong, incentives for banks, use of taxonomies, and reducing carbon footprints through blockchain and sustainable agriculture.
